| Monroe
Kanouse is active as an opera conductor, a coach and accompanist.
A native of the San Francisco Bay Area, he has served on the
musical staffs of the San Francisco Opera the Western Opera Theater
and the Merola program for seven years. He served as Permanent
Conductor of the Oakland Opera from 1981 to 1985, as principal
conductor of Sacramento Opera from 1981 to 1998, and has conducted
for the opera companies throughout the United States including
San Diego, Baltimore, Milwaukee and Lake George. Maestro Kanouse
has a repertory of over forty-five operas conducted, principally
in the Italian, French and English/American genre. He is also an expert in Gilbert and Sullivan, having conducted nearly all of the Operettas over the past thirty years. In 1995 he led the San Francisco Lamplighters to a first place win in the International Gilbert and Sullivan Festival in Buxton, England. |

| As
an accompanist he has worked with such prominent artists as Giorgio
Tozzi, Jess Thomas and Donald Gramm and numerous others on tours
throughout the Western United States, Canada, Europe and Australia. He is currently on the faculty of Holy Names College in Oakland, and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he conducts their annual opera production. The world premier of his own opera The Voices of Calafia took place at Chico State University in January 1991. |
